 This is the beginning of my 50th year in elective office, and as many of you know, I have being thinking long and hard about whether I should consider doing something different in the years ahead. The truth is, I cannot think of anything else I would rather do. This is the best job anyone could ever have because I work for the best people anyone could ever ask for. In representing more than 600,000 people, I know that I cannot always be in agreement with everyone on every issue. The people of the 10th Congressional District, however, know me and we are comfortable with each other. They trust me to always be honest with them and to tell them where I stand on various issues and why. Beverly and I believe this special relationship we have with you and the others I represent is just too special to give up so I am announcing this evening that I am seeking reelection this Fall to serve as your Congressman. There has been much speculation about my plans so I wanted you to hear it from me personally. In the coming weeks, I will be back in touch with you about ways that you can be of help during our upcoming campaign. In the meantime, please know that your friendship and support is the most important thing to me and to Beverly and that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of our team that has done so much good for our community.
